Quality & compliance

What your quality and supply chain teams need to qualify BSU.

ISO 9001 certified, ITAR registered, working toward CMMC Level 2, and built to IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 with Class 3 available. Here is how we inspect, test and trace every build, and the documents we can send for your supplier file.

Our quality management system

A BSI-certified ISO 9001:2015 system with six controlled steps applied to every order. Each step has defined checks and a record, so nothing moves on without evidence.

  1. 01

    Order review

    • Revision and technical data notice (TDN) check
    • BOM, drawing and DFM review

Record: E2 order; job folder packet

  2. 02

    Procure and receive

    • Counterfeit-avoidance procedure
    • X-ray component counter at receiving
    • Moisture-sensitive parts handled per J-STD-033

    Record: E2 receipt; MSL log

  3. 03

    Build

    • Line-by-line first article
    • SPI on every print
    • Reflow profile per assembly

    Record: Traveler; first article record

  4. 04

    In-process inspection

    • 3D AOI and 5D X-ray
    • Flying probe
    • QC after through-hole

Record: AOI, X-ray and probe results

  5. 05

    Final inspection

    • Two-step final inspection to IPC-A-610
    • Cleanliness verified by ion chromatography

    Record: Inspector sign-off on traveler

  6. 06

    Audit and ship

    • Quality engineer audit before ship
    • Three-layer protective packaging

    Record: Shipment audit record

Across every step

Certification
ISO 9001:2015, certified by BSI since July 2020 (certificate FM 719411). Scope: the manufacturing of electronic assemblies for commercial and vertical markets. Recertification audit passed April 2026 with no major nonconformities; certificate issued July 9, 2026, valid to July 8, 2029.
Every operation
Station work instructions; traveler signed at each step.
Training
IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 certified since 2024, with an in-house Certified IPC Trainer (CIT) and Certified IPC Specialists (CIS); IPC-7711/7721 rework certified.
Calibration
Torque tools, reflow ovens and profilers, and inspection gauges.
ESD and climate
ESD program to ANSI/ESD S20.20, with straps tested and logged every shift; floor temperature and humidity monitored.
Documents
E2 ERP for orders and traceability since 2018; job folder packets carry the current drawing and BOM.
Corrective action
Every nonconformance and return gets a written CAPA report: containment within 24 hours, root cause within 5 days. 100% of 2026 CAPAs closed on time.
Audit and review
Internal audits run all year; management review every quarter.

Inspection and test coverage

Each step is there to catch a specific failure mode before it reaches you.

StepHowWhat it catches
Incoming inspection X-ray component counter; MSL handling per J-STD-033 Wrong counts and moisture damage. 0.1% of 1.2 million parts rejected at receiving since 2024
3D solder paste inspection (SPI) Koh Young (3 systems); volume, area and height on every print Insufficient, excess or bridged paste before placement
3D automated optical inspection (AOI) Koh Young Zenith Alpha, after reflow Missing, shifted, tombstoned or wrong-polarity parts
5D X-ray X-Tek XTV 160; BGAs and hidden joints BGA voiding, bridging, incomplete collapse and head-in-pillow
Flying probe test Takaya (2 systems) Opens, shorts and component-level defects that look fine visually, including bad part lots
In-circuit, power-up and functional test As the build requires, to your procedure Assembly and component faults under power
Ionic cleanliness Verified by ion chromatography where required Flux residues that cause leakage and electrochemical migration
Automatic cable testing Every cable and harness Continuity faults, shorts and miswires

Traceability

Lot and serial traceability for components and assemblies is held in our E2 ERP system. When a part lot is suspect, we can find every board it went into and quarantine the lot; we did exactly that when flying probe caught a bad lot of customer-supplied Ethernet PHYs.

Controlled data

ITAR-controlled technical data is handled only by authorized U.S. persons, and production stays in the United States. We never ask for controlled files through the website: tell us the project is ITAR-controlled and we coordinate a secure transfer. BSU is working toward CMMC Level 2, targeted Q1 2027.

Quality questions

Is BSU’s ISO 9001 certification current?
Yes. BSU has held BSI ISO 9001 certification since July 2020 (certificate FM 719411), covering the manufacturing of electronic assemblies for commercial and vertical markets. BSU passed its recertification audit in April 2026 with no major nonconformities; the certificate was issued on July 9, 2026 and is valid to July 8, 2029. Certificates can be validated in the BSI client directory.
How does BSU handle nonconformances and returns?
Every nonconformance and customer return gets a written CAPA report, with containment within 24 hours and root cause within 5 days. Open actions are tracked to closure and reviewed at the quarterly management review.
Is BSU Electronics AS9100 certified?
Not yet. BSU operates an ISO 9001 certified quality system, builds to IPC Class 3 for mission-critical programs, and is ITAR registered, with ITAR work handled only by U.S. persons. Many new-space, drone and defense-tech teams qualify us on that basis plus a first article build. If your program flows down AS9100 as a hard requirement, tell us early and we'll walk you through how we meet the underlying controls.
Is BSU CMMC certified?
BSU is working with an external IT provider to achieve CMMC Level 2 certification. The projected completion date is Q1 2027.
How does BSU handle ITAR-controlled technical data?
Controlled technical data is handled only by authorized U.S. persons and production stays in the United States. Don't upload ITAR-controlled files through the website; we coordinate a secure transfer instead.
What traceability does BSU provide?
BSU keeps lot and serial traceability for components and assemblies in its E2 ERP system, so a suspect lot can be found and quarantined.
